What is a name combiner?
A name combiner is a tool that takes two or more names and blends them into new ones. Instead of simply putting names side by side, it joins parts of each one (a first syllable here, an ending there) so the result sounds like a single, natural name.
Gonoma’s name combiner works with two, three or four names at once. It’s useful whenever you want something new that still carries meaning: a couple name, a baby name built from both parents, a business name that reflects its founders, or a username nobody else has.
How does the Name Combiner work?
When you press Generate Names, the tool splits every name into sounds and syllables, then rebuilds them using several different methods. Each result card shows which method created it:
- Prefix + suffixThe first syllable of one name joined to the last syllable of another.
- Half & halfThe first half of Name A with the second half of Name B, and the reverse.
- Start + endThe beginning of one name and the ending of another, cut where a consonant meets a vowel so it reads smoothly.
- OverlapTwo names joined on a letter they share, so the blend flows without a seam.
- AlternatingSyllables or letters taken in turn from each name.
- Sound swap and RemixThe opening sound of one name placed on the rest of another, or syllables reordered.
- Short and ExtendedCompact two-syllable blends and longer, more elaborate combinations.
- Multi-namePieces of three or four names joined in every order when you enter more than two.
Every candidate is checked for pronounceability: awkward consonant clusters, strange endings and results that just repeat an original name are removed. The remaining names are ranked for the style you picked, so Short favours three to five letters, Cute favours soft endings, and Brand Style favours crisp, easy-to-spell words.
Everything happens in your browser. The names you type aren’t sent to a server.
Creative ways to combine names
A name generator that blends names can help with far more than couple names. Here are some ideas to get started.
Couple and ship names
Blend two partners’ names for a wedding hashtag, a shared social account or a playful nickname.
Baby names
Combine both parents’ names, or add a grandparent’s name as a third input, to find a meaningful first or middle name.
Business and brand names
Mix founders’ names or descriptive words with Brand Style to get short names that are easier to trademark.
Usernames and gamer tags
Username Style adds underscores, capitals and numbers to create handles that are more likely to be available.
Characters and worlds
Writers and game designers can combine real names to invent believable names for characters, places and families.
Pets, teams and projects
Name a new puppy after the whole household, or a team or event after everyone involved.
Tips for creating a good combined name
- Say it out loud. A name that looks good on screen can be awkward to pronounce. Read your favourites aloud a few times.
- Try both orders. “Name A + Name B” and “Name B + Name A” often produce very different results. Gonoma tries both automatically.
- Keep a recognisable piece of each name. The best blends let people spot where the name came from.
- Switch styles. The same names give different results in Short, Cute, Creative or Brand Style. Regenerate to see more.
- Check spelling and meaning. Make sure the name is easy to spell and doesn’t mean something unintended in another language.
- Check availability for business use. Before using a name for a company or product, search trademarks, domains and social handles.
Frequently asked questions
How do I combine two names into one?
Type both names into Name 1 and Name 2, choose a style and press Generate Names. The tool blends them using several methods, like joining the start of one name to the end of the other, and shows the results as cards you can copy.
Can I combine three or four names?
Yes. Fill in the optional Name 3 and Name 4 fields and the generator adds multi-name combinations built from pieces of every name, alongside blends of each pair.
Why do I get different names when I press Regenerate?
Each name set can be combined in many ways. Regenerate shows combinations you haven’t seen yet. Once every good option has been shown, favourites from earlier rounds may appear again.
Why did I get fewer than 20 names?
Very short names, like two- or three-letter names, have fewer natural ways to blend, and the tool removes combinations that are hard to pronounce. Add another name or try a different style for more results.
Is the Name Combiner free?
Yes, it’s completely free. You can generate, copy and save as many names as you like.
Are the names I enter stored anywhere?
No. All name generation runs in your browser and nothing is sent to a server. Favorites you star are saved only in your own browser so they’re still there next time you visit.
Can I use a generated name for my business?
You can use any name you create. For a business or product, check that the name isn’t already trademarked in your country and that the domain and social handles you need are available.
